Recording for Transcription – Digital versus Analogue

Until and unless you don’t know, what Digital and Analogue transcription services are? It’s pointless to directly jump on their elementary differences.

Digital transcription is primarily done on the advanced equipments with the sheer assistance of latest software whereas an analogue service is a conventional method of recording. In the analogue process, traditional and old equipments are employed while recording. Now, when you know what they are, the basic difference between them is quite understood. This not just applies to voice recordings (for transcription) but to all sorts of recordings.

In the analogue machine (tape cassette record) the sound gets recorded when the wave forms. On the other hand, the latest digital machines take the signal samples and record the sound by storing them as bits. In digital recording, these bits get stored in the similar manner in which data gets stored in the computer. In comparison to analogue system, the digital systems have got higher-signal-to-noise ratio. Here, the term noise refers to any sort of disturbing sound but in analogue it refers to “tape hiss”. So it’s crystal clear that the quality of digital recording is far-far better than the analogue recording.

In case you make a master copy of the analogue recordings, the sound quality automatically deteriorates because originally, the sound quality is poor. But in digital recordings you won’t end up facing such troubles, doesn’t matter how many copies you create, the sound quality will remain the same.
So people, now its upto you which recording technique to prefer? Do decide reckoning your requisite requirements.

Things we keep in mind before recording an interview for transcription. Check for microphones, headphones, cables, batteries, tapes etc.

The ‘essentials’ for a perfect video transcript

Apart from audio transcriptions, video transcription services are also offered by the highly proficient and veteran and versatile audio and video transcribers. Audio transcription is very general but video transcription is still not that common in the domain. There are certain “essentials” for a perfect video transcript which are as follows:-

VIDEO TRANSCRIPTION OF NOISY PANEL DEBATES
Transcribing a full fledged panel discussion or a debate is the most difficult assignment a transcriber can ever do. It’s known as a cumbersome assignment because you have at least five or five plus main speakers and an audience chipping in with their comments. Unfortunately, if it comes out as an animated discussion then this complicated task turns into an onerous task.

ALL SPEAKERS COVERED IN THE TRANSCRIPT
Its mandatory to cover all the speakers in a transcript. Once a transcript is done, it has to get cross checked against the video in account to ensure that the transcriber has included all the speakers in the same.

SEPARATE AUDIO FOR VIDEO PROGRAMS
For sheer accuracy in the transcript, most of the video companies create a separate audio track for the related video. This saves a lot of time and consequently the transcript can be delivered in a quick turnaround time.

PRECISE DETAILS OF THE TRANSCRIPT
While briefing the project, a client must give proper instructions to the transcribers maintaining the transparency. Each and every requirement should be told to the transcriptionist before he starts off with the transcription process.

NAME SPEAKERS IN THE TRANSCRIPT
It actually depends on the client whether he wants the transcriber to identity the speakers by their names in the transcript or not.

If an audio transcript is provided alongside the presentation, it’ll assist the viewers of other countries to comprehend the speaker’s accent and the whole presentation in totality. Additionally, if videos with subtitles and captions are incorporated in the presentation then it’ll undoubtedly magnetize more viewers including the ones with impaired hearing. In the United States, captioning (of all pre recorded video) is mandatory because they believe that usually out of five people one person got hearing impairments. Furthermore, captions also assist the non English viewers to understand the video effortlessly (without language constraints).
